There are several websites like Javalobby, TheServerSide.com, JavaWorld etc where you can find the thoughts of people on Java, Software development, best practices etc. These sites will be very much useful for the people who is already working on Java for sometime to improve their knowledge on wide veriety of areas. But the beginners who want to learn java will normally start by writing a simple hello world kind of applications.
